The Amazing Race” the race is a reality TV Game Show in which a team of two people, who have some form of preexisting personal relationship, they race around the world in a contest with the other teams. Contestants endeavor to reach their destination first at "pit stops" at the end of each leg of the race to win prizes and to keep away from coming in last, which carries the opportunity of elimination or an important weakness in the following leg (segment). Contestants journey within multiple countries in a selection of transportation modes, counting
planes,
balloons, helicopters,
trucks,
bicycles,
taxicabs,
rental cars,
trains,
buses,
boats, and
by foot. The clues (cryptic hints) provided in each leg lead the teams to the next destination or direct them to carry out a task, either together or by a single member.
These challenges are correlated in some way to the country wherein they are situated or its culture. Teams are gradually eliminated until three are left; at that point, the team that reaches the destination first in the final leg is awarded a grand prize.
Produced by Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster, the unique series has aired in the United States since 2001 and has earned eight Primetime Emmy Awards, including the first seven awards, from 2003 to 2009, for "Outstanding Reality-Competition Program" (Top Chef broke Race's streak in 2010). Emmy-award-winning New Zealand television personality, Phil Keogh an, has been the host of the show since its commencement. The show has branched out to contain a number of international versions following a similar format.
